Pimp your blog

Vandaag heb ik m'n blog wat 'gepimpt'. De 'quotebot' kreeg een nieuw kleedje en er is nu een link naar mijn spoonflower winkel met een passend 'uithangbord'. Bij deze zie je mijn liefde voor texturen én vectoren nog maar eens bevestigd...

I pimped my blog today. I restyled the 'quotebot' and from now on there is a link to my spoonflower shop with a fitting 'sign'. Both are proof of my love for texture and vectors...

Mayday mayday

De alarmbel in mijn hoofd was al even aan het rinkelen. Mei was daar en de desktop opfleuring nog niet klaar! Vandaag de eindmeet dan toch gehaald. Uiteraard weer ter beschikking voor eenieder die dat wil... Stuur me een mail of download onderstaande afbeelding (laat je een berichtje achter... leuk om te weten waar mijn 'kindje' terechtkomt). Ladies, for the ladies

Enkele dagen geleden mocht ik - eindelijk! - mijn eerste lading stoffen van eigen ontwerp in ontvangst nemen (geweldig). Daaronder ook Mimmi & Minni... Annelies nam, zag en stikstakte in elkaar. Heel tevreden met het resultaat. Vanaf nu dus approved en te koop in mijn spoonflower shop. We plannen nog een 'how to' met ondersteunde foto's en tips voor wie zich er aan wil wagen.

Recently I - ad last! - received my first order of self designed fabric (great). Annelies - partner in crime - took, sew and conquered our cut and sew pattern 'Mimmi and Minni'. I'm very pleased with the result. As of now approved and for sale in my spoonflower shop. We are planning a 'how to' with pictures and tips for those who want to take a go at it.

Hoooowl

Een heerlijke opdracht van spoonflower deze week: What's the new owl? Spijtig voor alle uilenlovers onder jullie, maar naar't schijnt zijn uilen passé. Mijn wolf mist ze, hij moet er zowaar van 'howlen', maar koe en mol ruiken de roem. Mol duikt in de boeken om zich de uilfinesses toe te eigenen (op zich al een uilse activiteit). Koe smijt zich meteen en oefent op de uilenroep.

En ja,... ik voelde me geel!

A nice theme this week for the spoonflower contest: What's the new owl? I'm sorry for the owllovers amongst you, but apparently owls are out. Wolf misses them, it even makes him 'hooowl', but cow and mole smell an opportunity. Mole hits the books and reads all about being the perfect owl and cow starts practicing his owl call...


And yes,... I felt yellow!

Een tweede plaats kunnen veroveren samen met Annelies ... Ik hoop dat ik hier heel binnenkort 'de échte Mimmi en Minni' kan posten. Ik wacht nog vol ongeduld tot mijn eerste stofjes van eigen ontwerp-bestelling arriveert.

A second place for Annelies and I ... I hope I'll be able to post 'the real Mimmi and Minni' real soon. I'm still waiting - anxiously - for my first self designed fabric order to arrive.

Bittere ernst!

Maart was super stof! En waarom zou april moeten onderdoen... ik voorzie de komst van nog heel wat fleurig katoen. 

Een verzoek: beperk u vooral niet tot 1 april voor wat vrolijkheid en graptjes!

Wil je een desktop met bovenstaand uitzicht de komende maand? Mail naar dit adres. Deze maand een speciale aanbieding: een gratis moptje bij de al even gratisse desktopkalender (waaaauw hoor ik u zeggen).

Top ten

Toch weer de top 10 gehaald. Dankzij haar zesde plaats reist mijn stofje naar het Textielcentrum in Minneapolis voor een heuse tentoonstelling ("Urban Sightings"). Een jury kiest nog haar winnaar uit de 10 geselecteerden... meer nieuws begin mei.
Daarna zullen de 10 stofontwerpen gebruikt worden in het educatieve programma van dit Textielcentrum. Leuk!
(Trouwens, wie goed kijkt én wat zoekwerk verricht, ontwaart het Textielcentrum op mijn ontwerp)

I made it into the top 10. Thanks to my spot in 6th place my fabric will travel to the Textile Centre to be part of an exhibition. A jury will choose their winner... more news on that in may.
After the fabrics have been in the "Urban Sightings" exhibition, the Textile Centre will be keeping them together as a collection for the education programs there and will use them to travel to schools. Fun!
(By the way, if you watch closely and do some searching, you can see the Textile Centre in my illustration)

Let the cat out of the bag

For this design I teamed up with the sewelicious stichaholic Annelies Gils. She pulled the perfect cut and sew pattern out of her hat (or should I say bag). It was a fun collaboration!

A little bagsplanation:

In the late Middle Ages, when meat was scarce but cats were not, people sold cats in stead of pigs in closed bags (or pokes). When the victims opened the bag… the secret got out. The idioms 'Let the cat out of the bag' and 'Pig in a poke' originated from this. There are many equivalents in other languages. 'Een kat in een zak kopen' in Dutch and 'Acheter un chat en poche' in French both mean 'To buy a cat in a bag' and 'Dar gate por liebre' is Spanish for 'to give a cat instead of a hare'.

Mimmi and Minni are competing with other bags in the upcoming spoonflower contest.

Urban sightings

Een nieuwe week, een nieuwe wedstrijd... Deze week wel een tikkeltje anders. Spoonflower slaat de handen in elkaar met het 'Textile Center' in Minneapolis. Er werd gevraagd om op basis van enkele foto's uit het stadsbeeld een ontwerp te maken. Een jury selecteert de 10 beste inzendingen.

A new week, a new contest... This week a bit different. Spoonflower partners up with 'Textile Center' in Minneapolis. The design had to be inspired on one or more given pictures. A jury will select the top 10.

Life is like a quilt...

Ik zit weer met een spoonflower virus. Zo'n leuk en inspirerend onderwerp - een ontwerp voor een 'cheater quilt' met robots als thema - kon ik niet laten liggen. Ben dus in mijn wacom-pennetje - mijn tofste collega - gekropen, en heb gisteren mijn bijdrage voor de wekelijkse wedstrijd doorgestuurd. Benieuwd naar de reacties!

De stembus is trouwens nog niet geopend. Wordt vervolgd...

I've entered the spoonflower contest again. I couldn't resist such a fun and inspiring topic - a design for a cheater quilt with a robot topic. I look forward to the reactions!

Marching in

Februari bracht me goeds (waaronder 'lokaal 6' - een werkstek in hartje Leuven - en mijn prinses Bess - die laat zich weldra zien). Maart mag wat mazzelen...

A little taste of...

Een proevertje van het kookboek dat ik in opdracht van vader en moeder Brockmans maakte.
Een verzameling van alle favoriete familierecepten gespijsd met kiekjes van weleer en plaats voor aanvullingen en nieuwe recepten. Voortaan hebben de kinders - die nu hun eigen potjes koken - alle keukengeheimen bij de hand.
Een heerlijk project. Dat smaakt naar meer!

A little taste of the cookbook I made for the Brockmans family. A collection of their favourite family recipes spiced up with pictures from the old days and room for notes and new recipes. 
From now on the kids - now with their own household - have all the kitchen secrets near at hand. 
A delicious project. Tastes like more!

Pimp project I: waterbottle

Ik heb mijn collectie voormalige soep- en fruitsapflessen 'omgetoverd' met deze sticker. Et voila:  waterflessen waar je vrolijk van wordt....

Mijn eerste deelname aan de - wekelijkse - ontwerpwedstrijd van Spoonflower (produceert digitaal bedrukte stoffen). Het thema voor deze week is 'old technologies'. Weldra bestook ik u allen met de vraag om op me te stemmen!
